How My Mom’s Cancer Inspired Me To Help Other Women To Prevent It + 3 Fun Ways To Fundraise for The American Cancer Society

My mom's cancer is why I started my career in wellness educatnig women about prevention. Here I share 3 fun ways to raise funds in support to The American Cancer Society!
This post was done in collaboration with The American Cancer Society.  As usual, all opinions are my own! #PassionToPurpose #AttackingCancer

If you’ve been following me for a while, then you know that the reason I started my career in the wellness space and helping other women become healthier and happier, is because of my mom’s cancer.

If you’re new to my community, then now you know!

Seeing her go through her aggressive breast cancer, made me realize that all that pain and the lessons that came from it should not be in vain. One of the most beautiful things her cancer gave me, is that it helped me find part of my life’s purpose.

This purpose is, of course, helping other women to prevent cancer instead of reacting to the illness. As with most chronic illnesses, doing as much as possible to reduce risk is key.

I feel very lucky and blessed, that my mom is still here with us. I’m very passionate about sharing our story, so it inspires other women out there to take care of themselves. To put their health and well-being FIRST.

That’s why I loved partnering with the American Cancer Society to share a little bit of my story, and how it empowered me to turn my passion for health & wellness into purpose and ways we can help raise funds for ACS so they can keep fighting the good fight.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating cancer. As you can imagine, I 100% support their work to save lives, celebrate lives and to lead the fight for a world free of cancer.

Want to start your own fundraiser to support ACS?

You don’t have to be a professional in the wellness industry, in order to make an impact. YOU can do so much, little by little, to make the world a better place.

Now that’s even easier with Raise Your Way, an American Cancer Society platform that helps you transform the things you love into fundraisers.  It’s incredibly easy to turn your passion to purpose on Raise Your Way, click here to be walked through the steps.

Here are some examples of things I did, that you can do too to help raise funds:

Health Talks

This is actually how everything started for me, sharing the things I did to help my mom to heal, and the holistic plan we put in place for her (nutritional, emotional, physical). I started sharing our story for free at the yoga center I was frequenting at the time, and 10 people would show up, then 20, then 30 and the rest is history!

If you’re not a professional in the health & wellness space, you can ask a local health coach, naturopath or functional doctor to help you and your fundraising initiatives, you’ll be surprised how many professionals donate their time/fees for amazing causes like this!

Participants attending the talk can donate through your fundraiser to confirm their attendance, as a sort of RSVP.

Zumba Classes

I love dancing! So when I started creating awareness in my community about healthy living, it was a no-brainer for me… Zumba class it is!

If like me, you love to dance you can host a donation based Zumba class, or charging a fixed fee. You’ll get your community to move, get healthier and raise funds at the same time.

Healthy Cooking Classes

This one is definitely one of my favorites! Eating healthy is one of the main challenges women face when they embark on the journey of becoming healthier.

I have lost count of how many healthy cooking classes I have hosted over the years, and it’s always so much fun! You can do that too… create a 3-4 healthy dishes menu, and invite your friends and their friends for an evening of fun and healthy cooking.

The perfect excuse to raise funds, and have fun!

Make sure to create your fundraiser at The American Cancer Society following these easy steps:
