2017 is a year of SIMPLIFICATIONS for me!
Last year was rough. Like rough, WTF rough on-so-many-levels [both personally and professionally]… Usually, when there’s growth there are challenges and decisions that have to be made because you are either the Thermostat or the Thermometer of your life.
Deep? you bet.
I recently finished the book Millionaire Success Habits and the author mentions this analogy: A Thermometer only reflects the temperature of its environment, adjusting to the situation. But a Thermostat initiates ACTION to change the temperature in its environment.
So a great deal of this 2017 has been and will be THAT… being more intentional about the things I can change, and letting go of those I can’t or that no longer serves me.
Starting with: My own health & overall wellness!
I’m so into it and so pumped to share my wellness trends with you, that I have decided to create a whole series of posts around this one. We will all LEARN and most importantly, we will take ACTION.
BUT FIRST… LET ME TELL YOU THE ONES I’M SOOOO HAPPY THAT ARE NO LONGER TRENDING [Yup, we ALL got the memo!]
I had a FUN chat with my girls over at my Instagram and this is an SFW –safe for work– and filtered version of the feedback [I swear to God my #CandyGlowSquad girls are the craziest!]
- Bootays & six packs: yawn, yawn, yawn… I guess it’s safe to say that we all know that a six pack does NOT = health. We are over that, ok? Next…
- Crazy, over-the-top expensive ingredients, recipes & wellness rituals & activities [I’m looking at you Gwyneth Paltrow!]… nobody got the time OR the willingness to spend $$$ for a $200 dls smoothie, $500 vampire facials or overpriced retreats in Bali.
- FAKE: I’m so glad that YOU (my readers, and almost the rest of the world) are fed up with the fake health scene that has been floating around for quite some time on social media.
- No, not all my food or smoothies are Instagram worthy.
- No, I don’t eat seaweed as my main source of sustenance and chant OMMMMM 24 hours a day.
- Hell no, I’m not on the “All Raw – Eat Like A Unicorn” trend. Even I [being who I am, and doing what I do for a living] don’t have everything figured out.
- I fall out of the wagon, dust myself up and get back to it and share my experiences with you guys ALL the time. I’m human too, and we learn from each other constantly.
- Yes, I drink wine, champagne, etc (I can’t deal with hard liquor) and I don’t think you necessarily HAVE to give those up in order to be healthy (unless you have a specific health situation or illness, where is always advisable to abstain)… Everything in moderation, including moderation!
Resumed version: REALNESS is in, being Fake for the sake of “likes” is OUT!
When it comes to wellness trends that I don’t consider a trend, this one takes the cake. I’m always working on being the best version of myself. Not only for me but also because I can’t give my gifts to the world when I’m feeling like crap… I can’t be of service to any of you guys when that’s the case and also let’s just say that my hubby doesn’t like it either when I’m not on my best version mode, a.k.a. acting nuts! 🙈
So GRATITUDE is a HUGE one for me. I have so many blessings, I don’t ever want to take them for granted… One of the things I’m also implementing is being grateful for the little things. It’s easy to be grateful when everything is going well or for the big things, but when we lower the bar and start being grateful for the small things as well (like just “waking up”, warm water for a shower, the soft sheets in my bed) a whole new world of appreciation opens up… It’s just magical!
As mama Oprah says “Be thankful for what you have and you’ll end up having MORE”
#2 ANTI-INFLAMMATORY EVERYTHING
“Every human person who has cancer has a pH that is too acidic” 😞 This is a quote that’s often on my mind because of my family’s cancer history and the reason why I’m so obsessed with an alkaline diet [both for me & My clients], as opposed to counting calories, depriving myself or following the latest fad.
I’m pretty determined when it comes to creating pH balancing meals and elixirs [like this one] to support my goals because inflammation is linked to everything from bloating and acne to life-threatening illnesses… This is a wellness trend I’m happy to follow for the rest of my life. I believe 100% that prevention is the KEY!
#3 ADAPTOGENS & MINERALS
Since last year I’ve been hardcore including adaptogens in my lifestyle… So, what’s an Adaptogen? They are basically medicinal and healing herbs. They help our bodies adapt –hence the name– to stress and handle it in a healthy way.
Whaaaat? I’m in!
My favs 2 are: Maca [I use this one] & Ashwagandha [I use this one]. On Snapchat, you see me use them all the time in my smoothies, juices and even some beauty mixes… Did I mention I was a potion loving witch in my past life? Lol
Other adaptogens: Moringa [I like this one], ginseng, lucuma, astragalus, licorice root, holy basil, some mushrooms like cordyceps and rhodiola.
#4 MEDITATION & SELF CARE
Meditation truly has been a game changer for me. You see, I have what it’s called a “Monkey Mind”, which means –yeah, you guessed it!– that my mind is ALL over the place; urgggg. I have way too many tabs open, and sometimes that’s no bueno.
Meditation is a practice that trains your mind…. plain-and-simple. With meditation, you can boost your immune system, release fears and heighten your intuition… cool, right? Meditating can truly support all that you bring forth in the world. Every phase of my life that I’ve been killing it out there and achieving my goals, I’ve been meditating and doing yoga consistently. Coincidence? I think not!
#5 NATURAL & CLEAN BEAUTY (MAKEUP, SKINCARE, ETC.)
This one should not come as a surprise for you if you’ve been following me for a while.
Although I still have a few Mac items and other not so clean skin products, I’ve been slowly transitioning to 100% natural, cruelty-free, organic products. Our skin is our biggest organ. Why do we pay attention so much to what we eat, and not to what we put ON our body? Crazy!
Also, I’m a big fan of less is more (make-up Youtubers please don’t hate me!)… we are supposed to let our skin breathe, and glow from the inside out with the nutrients we get from our food. I’m VERY specific with my skincare routine and the products I use.

#6 WORKING OUT FOR MY BRAIN, NOT MY ASS
*refers back to the beginning of the post, where I shared the trends I’m happy to see GO*
I don’t work out to have a six pack or an Instagram booty… I work out for the HEALTH benefits it gives me. To feel strong, focused and relaxed… working out gives me exactly that!
The benefits of fitness for mental health is something that’s not talked about often, and I want to change that narrative.
You can totally ease anxiety and get out of a crappy mood when exercising. Do I love that my butt looks awesome when I squat consistently? Hell yes! [and my hubby loves it too! *wink*] but for me, it’s more important to feel empowered and how good my body and my brain feel after a killer workout.
#7 FOCUS ON MY GUT HEALTH
Did you know we have 2 brains?!
Yup, home to 100 million neurons within our intestinal wall… in fact, the vast majority of serotonin (hormone that regulates mood, sleep, anxiety, depression and more) is actually made in our gut, not our brain *insert exploding brain emoji here*
It’s all connected and sadly, few doctors ask you about your digestive health when you tell them you’re feeling “a certain way” a.k.a. kind of depressed. That’s why I always champion a plant-based diet and feeding your body whole, plant-based, nutrient dense foods that support the good gut bacteria and keeps the harmful one under control.
I’ve been VERY intentional with eating probiotic foods (fermented ones such as sauerkraut, tempeh, kombucha, miso, etc.) taking probiotic supplements [I like this one & this one], eating regularly –but not constantly-, staying hydrated and staying away from sugar/processed foods as much as I can.
Sounds like much, but I promise you: IT IS WORTH IT!
And you don’t have to follow all these wellness trends, do the ones that resonate with YOU… As I always say, you gotta do YOU boo!
