Getting Out Of My Comfort Zone… It’s An Art, Really!

I’ve been thinking long and hard about this post, getting out of my comfort zone has become a titanic labor.

I noticed it recently.

… I didn’t like what I noticed.

It sounds like a cliche, but it’s really in our own hands to change things, even if they seem daunting at first. Geez, this adulting thing reaaaaally got me thinking because I’ve never been one to even blink twice to go “head-on-first” when it comes to a good challenge. Since when do I love the comfort zone so much? *crickets*

I got an invitation to be a model for Latina Magazine‘s Fashion show at Hispanicize. Yup, you heard that right. I was asked to do that catwalk thing and before I could compute it in my mind, I had replied “yes” to the email. Would it look bad if I take it back now? #LifeIsSoHard

But before saying yes, a series of doubts, self-sabotage and negative talk went through my mind: “Candy, you are NOT a model”, “Candy, who do you think you are to be modeling?”, “Seriously, modeling?”, “But you’ve gained the happy-newlywed-fifteen, you’re SO NOT in modeling shape”… urgggg, I could go on, and on, and on.

And that’s exactly why I went all in and said YES… I was not ready for what was to come.

The thing is, there we several designers and I didn’t know which one I was being assigned to up until I got to the fitting room to try on the clothes, meet the designer and get glammed (hair & makeup) for the fashion show.

Esmeralda, head designer and CEO of the fashion brand immediately made feel at ease. She describes the brand as “being on a mission to make women feel beautiful and exude their confidence by creating special pieces that are timeless, comfortable, sexy and stylish. Our Tank tops are intended for the well-dressed woman who appreciates the best things in life while feeling comfortable and sexy”. Please place the emphasis on SEXY… LORD-HAVE-MERCY!

All her pieces are sexy as hell, period.

Not going to lie, I felt a little light headed when I saw myself in the mirror Lol I do have my “sexy kitten” moments, but in overall I’m pretty conservative when it comes to clothing.

And that’s the beauty of GETTING OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE…

Doing things even if you are afraid, even if they challenge you because guess what? That’s the ONLY way we grow!

To make a long story short, we went through several model changes until she found “the one” she felt look killer on me, which consisted on one of her signature best sellers ruffled in the back (the one I’m wearing above). I rocked the hell out of that tank and felt soooooo confident when I was walking the fashion show. Not a trace of doubt.

It’s like I turned in my inner Sasha Fierce (hi Beyonce!) and forgot about all my insecurities for a moment and that’s when I realized that the same principle applies for pretty much everything in life.

Just-Go-For-It!

Besides, I got to meet and hang out with my other badass cuties who also killed the floor when it was our time to model Emerald Black. We all kept cheering each other and saying how bomb we looked Lol Girl power at its finest.

Thank you to Ebby Antigua from Latina Magazine, Angela Sustaita from Hispanicize and Esmeralda for this AMAZING experience.

Thanks for giving me the chance to dust off my comfort zone, and realize I was feeling too comfortable with being comfortable.

Getting out of our comfort zone is an art… really. The meaning of life is getting out of that zone and realizing that the riskier it is, the more we will grow. And anyways, can you imagine how boring life would be if we never dare to do something crazy every now and then?

Have you done anything to get out of your comfort zone lately? Do you have any experience you are now thankful because it thought you a lot?

Let me know in the comments!

  1. Love how open you are to being vulnerable and your voice is so authentic. We don’t see that very much anymore with influencer or bloggers. I don’t want to hate, but there’s so much fake people around. Kudos for you chica, love your page!

  2. I just want to say THANK YOU for sharing this with us. I’m constantly afraid of stepping out of my comfort zone. Will do my best to break.

  3. I loved this post so much! Getting out of our comfort zone is SO HARD, but it is definitely what makes us grow. Also, there is a sweet taste after doing it, because normally great things come from it. Thank you for being an inspiration! And girl, that outfit looks so good on you!
